Welcome to CSD! We're so excited that you're volunteering to be a teacher with the program. Children are an integral part of our congregation and CSD's goal is to support them at all stages of their spiritual development. All adults in the congregation are encouraged to volunteer and you do not have to be a parent to join us on Sunday mornings.
We're able to provide the most inclusive and robust programming when we have a group of committed volunteers. The goal is to have regular teachers committed to each age group who will take turns in the classroom across the course of a month. This way you have: a opportunity to build deeper relationships with a group of kids; a knowledge of how to best adapt lesson plans for that group; and a chance to receive spiritual fulfillment both as a teacher in the classroom and as a congregant in the sanctuary
This form is a new strategy to keep track of volunteer information. Please fill this out as best you can, knowing that things may change over the course of the year. The hope is that this info will allow us to be more intentional in creating CSD programming that serves the needs of both the kids and the volunteers.
If you'd like to talk more or have questions, please feel free to reach out to Zoë Johnston at dsd@usguu.org
Child Safety Background CheckIf you plan to volunteer as part of our CSD team, the state of Pennsylvania requires that all adults working with children (including periodic volunteers) pass a background check.
For those that have not volunteered with CSD before or have expired clearances, you can find more information
here. We require a Child Abuse History Clearance, a Criminal History Check, and a FBI Fingerprint Check for volunteers who have not lived in PA for 10+ years. If fingerprinting is cost prohibitive to you, the DSD will cover the expense.
